Shards of Crystal - 2nd Session

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 11:16 AM
D&D
Last night was our second session for the Shards of Crystal campaign, and I have to say it went great.

This session had to big things happen:

1.) The game was run over the internet using the RPTools virtual game board (MapTool), and I have to say that I'm impressed as hell with the result. The tool is fairly easy to use and allows for a large amount of flexiblity. Overall, I would recommend folks using it (even for games that aren't being played over the internet)

2.) [info]outlaw_mel joined the party and was a laugh-riot. She jumped right into her character (a wise-cracking tiefling rogue named Rozca) and helped keep everyone in character. Totally worth getting her involved.

I'm really excited about the campaign and feel really good about my performance as a GM last night. I don't have the usual set of doubts and worries about if people had fun or if I made it challenging enough.

We ended up playing till about 1am, which was much longer than I had expected but everyone seemed to be having so much fun I didn't want to force a stop.

All-in-all a great night.

GPS Review

Satyr
For Christmas this year I asked for a GPS because I do a lot of driving and very frequently I end up taking the "scenic" route. Actually I almost always get lost when I'm coming home from an appointment with [info]scohenlmt which is really embarrassing.

Anywho, so my folks got me a GPS for Christmas and [info]ladycoccia asked me to write a review of it as she was thinking about getting one. So here you go:

That's the long and short of it. Hope this was helpful.

Kings

Movie Review
So in the last week or so I've become aware of the new show Kings, and I've watched an interview with Ian McShane (on the Daily Show), read the wikipedia entry, and seen some teaser videos. Overall the show looks pretty neat, and I have to admit that I'm facinated by the concept for the show. Then again having just finished watching Rome I'm in a "fictional but not" mood (Deadwood is next on my Netflix list).

So has anyone seen the pilot? I know that I can watch it on Hulu (and I'm planning on doing that this weekend) but I wanted to see if any of you have watched it, and what you think?

Song in my head: Flowers on the Wall

For no reason in particular this is the song that's been in my head for the past day:

Statler Borthers - Flowers on the Wall Lyrics

I keep hearin' you're concerned about my happiness
But all that thought you're givin' me is conscience I guess
If I was walkin' in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none
While you 'n' your friends are worried about me I'm havin' lots of fun

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do

Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doin' fine
You can always find me here, I'm havin' quite a time

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do

It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do

Don't tell me I've nothin' to do

So about twice a week I play the lottery and for $2 I get to play the "What would you do?" game.

Simply put the game is: "What would you do with the winning?"

So folks: What would you do if you won $80,100,000?

Call-out for Help

Dreams
Hey folks,

As many of you folks know I have a number of creative creative projects that I've been working on on and I'm looking for some help from some of my more artistic-inclined friends.

I want to great some logos for to use on these projects. Specifically what I'm looking for is:

Satyr Grove Publishing - This logo will be used for the publishing group that will be holding the rights to the various projects.

Horizon - This logo will be used for the super-hero comic that I'm working on. The logo (for reasons that I can explain if you would like) should also have a "mirror universe" version as well (Over the Horizon).

Anyone want to take a crack at these?

You are in your twenties
You can still hear reasonably well and you can play this without my old fart colleagues hearing it which makes you feel kinda good.

Belkar - God of War

Okay this was inspired from issue #610 of Order of the Stick. Which if you aren't reading...you should.

Anyway, the following is how I picture what happened during Belkar's "dream state". In the actual comic Rich cuts away from the scene in Belkar's head to what is going on in the real world. Which I think was the right move for the story, I just had a flash of inspiration as to what was going on in Belkar's mind what we couldn't see. I'm going to actually post this to Rich and hope that he likes it. It is really one of my first few fan-works and I'm actually pretty proud of it. Warning...the below image is large so may take a while to download.

The Path to the Justice League

  • Oct. 21st, 2008 at 10:18 AM
Movie Review
Based on a conversation I had with [info]bears_place and Andre:

How DC should get from Batman Begins to The Justice League.

Based on the success of Marvel's Ironman and The Incredible Hulk movies, and their ambitious plan to make a mega-arch of movies that will lead to The Avengers (Ironman, The Incredible Hulk, Ironman II, Thor, The Incredible Hulk II, Captain America, and finally The Avengers). I don't see why DC couldn't do a similar thing with the JLA. Provided here is my humble suggestions on how:

Next Batman Film: Not sure what the title will be, but it seems fairly obvious there will be another Bat-film. Whatever the main plot of the film is there should be a moment where Bruce is reading The Daily Planet which has a fuzzy picture of a flying man with the headline "Who is Superman?"

Superman: New film, new start. This should be done in a similar way that Batman Begins restarted the Bat-films. The main conflict should be between Superman and Lex Luthor (who should presented in a similar way as he was in the Superman Animated Universe.) LexCorp should be the evil Wayne Enterprises, and in a similar way Lex should be the evil Bruce Wayne. I see Metallo being the guy that is the punch-for-punch enemy for Superman, but Lex is the ultimate villain.

Superman II: Continuing from the first film, but with the bad guy being...Zod. Yes I know that this seems a bit odd but after the first film you would need someone who could give Superman a real fight. Also Zod shouldn't be the 80's "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD" but a more subtle villain. Zod has always wanted to be in charge, and the only thing stopping him here is the son of his enemy. While crushing Superman would be the easy way, better to replace him or better yet turn him. This should be done with almost a Empire Stikes Back sort of flair. Zod is evil, but not stupid. The end fight between these two power-houses should be epic (and as a plot twist Superman is fighting, in part, to save Lex Luthor!)

World's Finest: Team up Batman and Superman, the story should showcase the best these two heroes have to offer.

Wonder Woman: People have been wanting to see her on the big screen, and I think she is important enough to warrant her own movie. At the end of Wonder Woman she should be approached by Superman about an idea that he and Batman came up with (during World's Finest).

Justice League: This should start In medias res and start BIG. The opening scene should show a.) The main players (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash) b.) The reason why the JLA exists...something HUGE (I was thinking Armageddon only without Bruce Willis). The main villain for this story should be something equally awesome and there are only a few bad guys in the DC universe that fill the bill. Personally I'm thinking Darkseid, but that may be over the top. Perhaps if JLA was made into a three-film epic, then Darkseid and Apokolips would be the big fight (and location) for the climax of the films.

Unlikely? Probably
Crazy? Definitely

Would it work? I think so.
